Sometimes replacing only one part of the system absolutely makes sense.
But in many cases, replacing the furnace and AC together is actually the more reliable and cost-effective long-term approach.
Here’s why:
Your heating and cooling system is connected more than most homeowners realize.
The indoor evaporator coil for the AC sits directly on or near the furnace cabinet:
- Above it in upflow systems
- Below it in downflow systems
That means even an “AC-only” replacement still involves partially disassembling and modifying portions of the furnace system during installation.
