Indoor Air Quality

Serving Salt Lake City, Taylorsville, and more.
Honest guidance about indoor air quality and your HVAC system.

Indoor air quality can be confusing because there are a lot of products, promises, and sales pitches in the HVAC world. Many of them sound impressive. Not all of them are worth the money.

At Huish Heating and Air Conditioning, we are happy to talk through indoor air quality concerns with homeowners, but we are careful about what we recommend. We do not believe every home needs an in-duct air quality product, and we do not believe a duct accessory should be sold like a magic fix.

We are a family-run residential HVAC company, and we believe homeowners deserve honest guidance about filters, airflow, ductwork, and what actually makes sense for the home.

How we help

Most air quality conversations should start with the basics. Filters, airflow, return air, ductwork, equipment cleanliness, and the way the HVAC system is operating all matter. Sometimes the best answer is not adding another product to the ductwork. Sometimes it is using the right filter, keeping airflow healthy, maintaining the system, or using a quality in-room air purifier for the rooms where air quality matters most.

Evaluate

We look at the filter setup, airflow, return air, ductwork concerns, equipment condition, and what you are noticing in the home.

Explain

We walk you through what we see in plain language, including what may help and what may not be worth the money.

Recommend carefully

If something makes sense, we will explain why. If we do not think a product is likely to help, we will say that too.

What we focus on

Filter setup

Filters matter, but more filtration is not always better. A highly restrictive filter can act like a dirty filter if the system is not designed for it. That can reduce airflow, make the equipment work harder, and affect comfort and system life.

We help homeowners think about filter choices in a practical way: protect the equipment, support airflow, and avoid creating a new problem while trying to solve another one.

Airflow

Air quality and comfort are both affected by airflow. If the system cannot move air properly, the home may feel stale, dusty, uneven, or uncomfortable.

Return air, duct sizing, filter restriction, blower performance, and equipment sizing can all affect how air moves through the home.

Equipment cleanliness

A clean HVAC system matters. Dirty filters, dirty blower compartments, clogged coils, and neglected equipment can affect airflow and comfort.

Regular maintenance helps keep the system cared for and gives us a chance to catch problems before they become bigger issues.

In-room air purifiers

For homeowners who are serious about improving the air they breathe, a quality in-room air purifier is often a better place to start than adding a questionable accessory inside the ductwork.

Room-based air purifiers can focus on the spaces where you spend the most time, like bedrooms or living areas, without adding restriction or reliability concerns to the HVAC system.

Ductwork concerns

The duct system matters, but duct cleaning is also an area where homeowners can run into aggressive sales tactics and big promises.

Some homes may have ductwork issues worth addressing, but not every dust concern means the ducts need to be cleaned. We are happy to help you think through what makes sense before spending money.

A careful approach to air quality products

We are cautious with in-duct air quality products. Some products are sold with big promises, but they may not address the actual issue in the home. Some can also add maintenance concerns or reliability risks if they are not a good fit for the system. Our approach is simple: start with the basics, protect airflow, avoid gimmicks, and recommend only what we believe actually makes sense.

"We’ve been using Huish Heating and Air for over 20 years. They have installed complete systems at my parent’s home, my wife’s parent’s house, my sister-in-laws home, our rental homes and at some friends homes. It’s a family owned business and the second generation are treating us with the same care as their father did."

Mark Gardner

"I have used Huish since 2001, including two furnace/AC replacements, and if I could give this outfit 10 stars, I would. The service people are prompt, and the service is thorough. I get a check sheet that shows what was done, what was tested, the test results, and an overall indication of system status."

W Brunson

"DJ and Adam we're great! Installed an a/c unit in our older home that never had one. Very knowledgeable, communicated through the entire process, very accomodating, arrived on time, respectful of our home, and very clean work! Every hiccup they ran into with an older home they solved no problem. Very reasonably priced and the unit works great. These guys work hard and I would recommend 10 times over."

Summer Olsen

"I first worked with Huish during my home renovation, and had such a positive experience. They were professional, honest and they know SO much about HVAC and A/C systems. I am now signed up for their maintenance plan, and look forward to working witih them for years to come!"

"I can’t say enough good things about Adam and Huish’s philosophy and approach. He took the time to explain best practices for how to run things in summer vs winter and was so friendly. They were recommended to me by someone I trust, and now I know why. I’ll never use anyone else."

Tami Combs

"Quick. Thorough. No BS. We've had three or four big companies come out over the years and Adam was the first to breakdown our real issues, many of which were things we were doing wrong, making airflow problematic. Would highly recommend."

Steve

"I'm finishing my basement and needed to relocate the cold air return. Huish H&AC installed my original system when I built my house. DJ came out to consult on the best solution and I was very pleased with it. They scheduled an install the next week, and came on schedule. The return move was completed quickly and I was very pleased."

Nathan Anderson

"Refreshing to work with someone genuine and competent who prioritizes people, relationships, and quality care. Adam fixed my furnace and provided me with quick tips that would lengthen the life of my appliances and solve some concerns I had. 10/10 highly recommend."

Michael Draut

"I think it makes a difference when the owners of a company are actually doing the work. DJ and Adam were amazing to work with from coming and giving us a bid on a new HVAC system, being transparent and open about the products and pricing and then updating us throughout the install day. I would highly recommend them. 🤩"
